An Arkansas law banning gender-affirming care for transgender youth has been struck down by a federal judge, according to the EFE news agency.
A judge recently struck down the law which was passed in 2021 by the Republican lawmakers in Arkansas.
The law prohibited access to gender-affirming care for minors.
In his decision, U.S. District Judge James Moody Jr. stated that the law violated the U.S. Constitution and violated the rights of doctors, young people and their parents.
Arkansas law banning gender-affirming care for transgender youths

EFE reports that the Arkansas law was the first in the country to infringe upon the rights of transgender youth.
The law restricted minors’ access to gender-affirming care.
Subsequently, a significant number of conservative-led states, such as Texas, Georgia and Alabama have passed similar laws.
Upholding the rights of trans youth is a matter of deep concern for U.S. President Joe Biden.
Asa Hutchinson vetoed the bill

Then-governor Asa Hutchinson initially vetoed the bill but the State Legislature overrode his veto.
In Arkansas, the House and Senate only need a simple majority to overturn a governor’s veto.
The law prohibited access to gender-affirming care for minors in the state of Arkansas.
The law was struck down following a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
ACLU fights for trans rights

The ACLU is a non-profit organization that advocates for civil rights enshrined in the constitution.
The organization has been actively fighting laws that violate LGBTQ+ rights across the country.
They report that nearly 500 laws or bills were introduced this year in U.S. state legislatures.
Conservative politicians have been actively working to pass laws that criminalize the LGBTQ+ community.
Conservatives work to limit LGBTQ+ rights

Conservative legislators are continuing to escalate their fight against LGBTQ+ rights.
They claim they want to prevent young people from making irreversible decisions they may later regret.
Many Democratic lawmakers, on the other hand, warn of the risk of stigmatizing a vulnerable community.
Democrats argue that transgender youths often already face significant levels of discrimination and abuse.
